Installation and Setup

Please folow the Automatic Setup instructions first, as they will get most users set up with minimal effort. If you have trouble, you may follow the Manual Setup instructions, or call technical support.

Securing your Computer

Install the ActionTec

  1. Connect the Ethernet cable.

    It comes with a yellow CAT5 Ethernet cable, this goes from the one of the ActionTec's yellow jacks to the user's NIC.

  2. Connect the DSL line

    Connect the green phone cord from the ActionTec's green jack to the wall.

  1. Connect the power cord.

     

  • Check the panel lights.
  • If the Internet light stops blinking and goes solid green then the DSL portion of the connection is up and running.
  • If the Internet light never stops blinking then the DSL portion of the connection is down. Check to make sure there is NOT a filter between the green phone cord and the wall jack. Go thru the connection instructions once again.
  • If it still doesn't work then please call Sopris Surfers technical support.

Run Automatic Setup

The Actiontec DSL Router comes bundled with a CD-ROM labeled "Actiontec Installation Buddy". This CD-ROM should automatically run when inserted into your Windows computer, and it will walk you through the installation process step-by-step.(If it does not run sutomatically then browse to the CD and run "IB.EXE")

      1. Insert the CD-ROM disc. The install program starts.
      2. Click Next.
      3. Put a check in the "First Computer" box.
      4. Click Next.
      5. Is this modem Purchased or Leased from Qwest? Select Leased.
      6. Click Next.
      7. Select "I accept this agreement".
      8. Click Next.
      9. Who is your ISP? Select Other.
      10. Click Next.
      11. Select Ethernet. (use the yellow ethernet cable to go from the modem to the NIC)
      12. Click Next.
      13. The next 22 screens will guide you through determining if there are interfering devices on your phone line. Call technical support if you require assistance with any of these questions.
      14. Select "PPPoA".
      15. Click Next.
      16. The user must enter their Sopris Surfers username in the first box.
      17. The user must enter their Sopris Surfers password in the second box.
      18. Leave the checkbox unchecked.
      19. Click Next.
      20. Select "DHCP".
      21. Click Next.
      22. The buddy program will now search for the gateway. It should automatically find the gateway and program it.
      23. If all goes well they should get a success confirmation message.
      24. Click Finish.
      25. Power cycle the router, and see if it comes up.

Manual Setup

Follow these steps to get started.

    1. Plug in the power to the DSL router.
    2. Plug your DSL line from the router to the wall outlet with the black DSL line.
    3. Hook your Computer to your DSL router (Actiontec). Use your yellow Ethernet cable.
    4. You should now see three solid green lights
    5. Please attach the small phone filters to each phone line that is on the same number as the DSL circuit.
    6. On your computer please open a web browser. (Internet explorer)
    7. Type in the following address: http://192.168.0.1
    8. This opens a web page and you need to click on “Setup/ Configuration.”
    9. Begin Basic Set up.
    10. You need to choose PPOA.
    11. Type your user name.
    12. Type your password.
    13. Choose DHCP.
    14. Save and restart.
    15. Done!

Power Cycle instructions

Step 1 : Power cycle

Disconnect the power cord for 15 seconds.

Step 2 : Check the panel lights

If the Power and Internet lights are solid green then the DSL connection is UP. (If blinking green click here)

Step 3 : Test the browser.

If you can bring up a web page then it should be fixed. If you cannot bring up a web page, check to make sure the internet settings are correct, the firewall is disabled, etc.

Panel Lights

  1. Power : ON: The unit has power. OFF: No power
  2. Internet : ON: DSL connection up. BLINKING: DSL connection trying to sync up, but not connected.
  3. Wireless: should be OFF
  4. Ethernet Network : ON for if there is a live NIC connected to it.
  5. Ethernet Network : ON for if there is a live NIC connected to it.
  6. Ethernet Network : ON for if there is a live NIC connected to it.
  7. Ethernet Network : ON for if there is a live NIC connected to it.
